Workshop Details

Our dynamic, collaborative VaSCL Math Institute is designed to empower 3-12 educators to deepen knowledge of the 2023 Virginia Mathematics SOL revisions, including the new VDOE Instructional Guides by grade levels K-8, Algebra I, Geometry, and Algebra II. The intention of the VaSCL Math Institute is to respond to the emerging needs of educators in the field with up-to-date resources, continuous professional support and accessible math resources.

Participants will:

  • Unpack the big ideas of the content, process skills in practice, concepts, and connections.
  • Plan how to use balanced assessments to measure evidence of growth and proficiency of each standard.
  • Leave with the VaSCL balanced assessment map for new SOL math content.
  • Design the learning experiences for students in the new content using Math Forward and VDOE resources.
  • Finish the day with a renewed sense of confidence in the revisions and adaptable approaches to assess content for learning in your classroom and in your work to support fellow educators in your school and division!

Our top-notch mathematics institute staff will facilitate  2-3 person division/school teams to extend their expertise and support continued professional learning for educators implementing the new Math SOLS and aligning assessments, instruction, and pacing in your schools. We encourage that teams include coaches, specialists, department or team leaders who have responsibility for implementing elementary, middle, and/or high school math SOLs. Participants will leave the Institute ready to share information, strategies, and resources with educators in grades 3-12 in their respective divisions and/or schools.

Recertification Certificate

Recertification Certificates (6 points) will be given at the end of the PD workshop series after completion of an electronic exit survey.
