Workshop Details

Our schools are experiencing unprecedented growth of English learner populations. As we welcome more and more students from multilingual backgrounds, it is important that all teachers are equipped with tools, strategies, and resources that will have the most positive impact on instruction, facilitating equitable engagement and access to K12 curricula.

Join us for a three-part series around support for ESOL teachers, programs, and students.

First, we will look at facets of ESOL programs and discuss how to meet the needs of ESOL teachers as they work with ELs. In our second session, we will dive into ways to engage multilingual families to be partners in supporting their students. In our final session, we will open our strategy stash to support EL instruction across content and grade level K12 classrooms.

Part 1: Supporting ESOL Teachers and Their Administrators
In this session, we will look at components of strong EL instruction programs and requirements set forth by federal and state agencies and how staff members can interpret those to appropriately serve ELs in and out of the classroom.

Part 2: Supporting Multilingual Families and Students
How can we better facilitate connections between multilingual families and our schools? We will look at ways to increase family engagement and make connections across cultures that support school and family partnerships for student success.

Part 3: Supporting EL Instruction in K12 Content and Grade Level Classrooms
This session will focus on ways to differentiate instruction for English learners across grades, proficiency levels, and with varying abilities. We will open a treasure chest of resources, sharing ways to streamline planning, target assessments, and scaffold instruction for all ELs, including those with disabilities and those who are identified as gifted.

Recertification Certificate

Recertification Certificates (5 points) will be given at the end of the PD workshop series after completion of an electronic exit survey.
