Workshop Details

This session is designed for administrators to get up to speed on the research around supporting older readers’ literacy skills. Taking a strengths-based approach, this session will address best practices for supporting literacy across disciplinary classes as well as intervention. Dr. Lupo will be sharing what you can do in terms of supports, schedules, and systems to improve literacy learning for your students.

Sarah Lupo

Dr. Sarah Lupo is an Associate Professor of Literacy Instruction at James Madison University. She has extensive teaching experience as an ESL teacher, English teacher, reading specialist, and literacy coach in grades K-12 in Washington D.C., Istanbul, Turkey, Phoenix, AZ, and Charlottesville, VA. She has worked with many districts to support literacy instruction across the state of Virginia and nationwide. Dr. Lupo has published dozens of articles and chapters in publications such as Reading Research Quarterly, Reading Teacher, Journal of Adult and Adolescent Literacy, and Literacy Today and recently co-authored a book on integrating content and literacy instruction. Her work strives to put theory into practice to position all learners’ as capable and bringing cultural and linguistic assets to the reading experience.

Workshop Series Cost

The workshop fee is free for each participant who is a member of a school division that is a member of VaSCL. You can check here for member divisions.

The registration fee for participants from Non-Member school divisions is $50.
