Workshop Details

The right level of challenge is the necessary ingredient for moving learning forward in our schools and classrooms. Creating engaging learning experiences that reflect these three qualities must also embrace the diversity in our classrooms – how do I move learning forward for all learners, regardless of their level of readiness? One promising answer is instructional scaffolding. Instructional scaffolding is the temporary and customized structures put in place to support learners as they engage in the highest level of rigor through relevant tasks. Ensuring that all learners have the access and opportunity to the highest level of learning possible is the only way we will close achievement gaps. This session will unpack how to design and implement instructional scaffolding that accelerates student learning. Deciding when and where to place an instructional scaffold, paired with how to gradually remove the scaffold will foster, nurture, and sustain a learning environment that has unmistakable impact. This is a must-see session that will change learning in your schools and classrooms.

Learning Intention

We are learning about scaffolding, so that we can provide access and opportunity to the highest level of learning for all students.

Success Criteria

  • We can explain the reciprocal relationship between our students and us in instructional scaffolding .
  • We can apply a model of scaffolding to our teaching and learning
