4:00 pm - 5:30 pm
This series of workshops is for all educators who are interested in increasing their Desmos skills and enhancing their ability to use Desmos to engage all learners in blended or distance learning environments. Participants in these workshops will gain strategies for integrating this interactive tool into their instruction and learn how to use Desmos for real-time formative assessment and feedback, as well as get all the VDOE Quick Checks in Desmos while trying out the new 2020-2021 features.
During the four sessions in this series, participants will be given the opportunity to explore this dynamic instructional tool according to their own level of prior experience as a user of Desmos and for the specific grade/course that they teach. Participants can start with very little experience using Desmos and end up being able to build their own activities, or they can join for just those sessions they feel they need. The series will start with a Beginners-Part One workshop, intended for participants with no or very little experience with using Desmos. It will be followed by a second workshop, Beginners-Part Two, intended for participants who have some experience in using Desmos. The third workshop is for participants at the Intermediate Level, who have a fair amount of experience using Desmos, but who would like to increase their knowledge. The final workshop in the series is an “Activity Builder” session, for participants who are at the Intermediate or Advanced Level of prior experience with using Desmos. During each of the workshops there will be separate Break-Out rooms, based on the grade level bands participants choose in their registration.
During these workshops, all participants will access and use the VA Desmos K-Calculus Activity Bank to plan targeted and highly effective math instruction that builds mathematical discourse, elicits student thinking, and increases deeper learning, thereby building math competencies and mastery for all students.
Participants register for each workshop separately, based on their own level of prior experience in using Desmos. Educators can choose to participate in one, two, three, or four of the workshops, based on their individual needs.
