Workshop Details

Join us for a 90-minute virtual professional learning session designed to help educators transform the math classroom into a dynamic, student-centered environment using the Math Workshop model. Participants will explore practical strategies to implement Math Workshop structures that promote student choice, differentiated instruction, and collaborative learning, all while addressing the process goals of the 2023 Math Standards of Learning.

Virtual Workshop Information

The workshop will be hosted through ZOOM. A link will be sent out to participants closer to the time of the workshop.

Presenter

Skip Tyler

Skip Tyler most recently retired after 31 years in public education as the High School Mathematics Educational Specialist for Henrico County Public Schools in VA. His responsibilities included supporting mathematics instruction and providing professional development and coaching for administrators and teachers in his district. Impacting over 25,000 students, Skip worked to ensure that best practices are being utilized, monitored, and reinforced in all classrooms.

He earned a BS in Mathematics with an Art minor from Virginia Tech and a Master's Degree in Curriculum and Instruction from Virginia Tech. In addition, Skip is a National Board Certified Teacher endorsed in Adolescent and Young Adult Mathematics. He has presented on mathematics instruction at the national, state, and local level and is actively involved in leadership positions in his state and regional mathematical organizations.

As a high school math teacher for over 18 years, his passion was teaching Algebra 1. Skip was selected as the Teacher of the Year for his school, district, and region and was a finalist for Virginia’s Teacher of the Year. His experience as a successful classroom teacher and administrator during his 31-year career in public education provides him with a toolkit of effective instructional best practices that are focused on student understanding and comprehension.

Workshop Series Cost

The workshop fee is $75 for each participant who is a member of a school division that is a member of VaSCL. You can check here for member divisions.

The registration fee for participants from Non-Member school divisions is $85.

If you would like to pay now by credit card or through a PayPal/credit account, you will be given an opportunity to do so below.

If payment is not made by credit card/PayPal account at registration, the person whom you identified as the Billing Contact will be sent an invoice for payment of your registration fee.

Refund Policy

VaSCL has a no refund policy for workshop registrations.

We are happy to allow a substitute to attend in your place. Allison will need to know the person’s name and email address for confirmation.
