Workshop Details

As educators, your job involves helping others to solve problems, work with others, and invest in their development and success. A coaching mindset is essential for all leaders because none of us change our minds on our own. These collaborative work sessions will share coaching strategies, develop your coaching skills by applying them to real scenarios, and to understand the challenges of each practice to avoid the common pitfalls of coaching. Come learn with fellow coaches who are continuing to develop their own craft to assist others to reach their full potential.

Recertification Certificate

Recertification Certificates (6 points) will be given at the end of the PD workshop series after completion of an electronic exit survey.

Audience

K-12 Instructional Coaches, Teacher Leaders, & Administrators

Presenter

Debbie Collins

Deborah Collins served Albemarle County Public Schools (ACPS) for four decades, primarily in increasingly responsible executive leadership positions. Among her signature legacies is the division’s nationally renowned instructional coaching model, which has been the inspiration for similar programs in many other school divisions. She has served as a middle and high school math teacher, an elementary math specialist, and elementary principal in Title I schools.

In 2016, as executive director of Pk-12 Instruction, Collins was honored as the Commonwealth’s Curriculum Leader of the Year by the Virginia Association for Supervision and Curriculum Development (VASCD). The organization chose Collins for contributions consistent with its support for “proactive and innovative education policies and programs that ensure lifelong learning for all.”

In 2017, Collins was named deputy superintendent for student learning, overseeing all curriculum staffing, budgeting, and special education and federal programs for Albemarle County Public Schools.  She retired in 2024 and is currently serving as a coaching consultant.
